Fun with the grammar checker.
Dec. 13th, 2004 03:26 pmI always write my stuff in MS Word, and sometimes I'm amused by their ideas for grammar.
This:
“You never approached the Wizengamot,” he said, his mouth suddenly dry
according to Word should be
“You never approached the Wizengamot,” he said, his mouths suddenly dry
And, even more amusing, this:
"The Malfoys know more than a little about revenge, Sarah.”
“So do I,” she said calmly.
according to Word, should be:
"The Malfoys know more than a little about revenge, Sarah.”
“So do me,” she said calmly.
which seems to give it quite a different...er...effect. Though I approve of it, it is a bit early in the storyline. Hee.

Malfoy's saying something about revenge and she'll all calm and going "Yeah, yeah, whatever, let's get to the sex." *g*

MS Word grammar check is Teh Crack Cocaine (mouths, plural? WTFBBQ?). I'm sure that for "woe is me", it wouldn't offer the grammatically correct if dull "woe is I", but perhaps "woe is my" or even "woe are mine".

Date: 2004-12-13 11:08 pm (UTC)Obviously, the person in charge of the grammar for MS Word over at the much vaunted Microsoft (the name speaks volumes, doesn't it?), is sexually frustrated (they've probably got him chained to his desk, and are feeding him stale coffee from a machine), and is unconsciously inserting sexual innuendo into his work. Poor man, let's give him a minute of silence, because MS Word grammer (and spelling) never fails to amaze me.

Date: 2004-12-13 11:13 pm (UTC)I don't know if you ever read Microserfs by Douglas Coupland, but in it a Microsoft employee locks himself in his office for days, and his co-workers end up having endless discussions about nearly two-dimensional food (crackers, kraft singles, etc.) that they can slide under the door for him.
I really was astonished when a green line appeared under "I"...I was thinking, what on Earth could they be suggesting to replace it?
