So I saw the concert last night. Tori usually tours by herself or with a band. I infinitely prefer Tori with the band; in fact, I think I've made up my mind never to go to another Tori-with-a-piano tour. Thankfully, this show was with her band (and an extra guitarist, w00t!), so that rocked.

Tori opened the show with five songs in the Santa wig/persona (blonde with a sparkly green dress).

In my own opinion, there are several Toris. There's electronica-Tori, there's strange-Tori (mostly on Boys for Pele), there's plinky-bar-piano-Tori, and there's girl-with-piano-Tori. I like electronica-Tori best, honestly.

  • Body and Soul (American Doll Posse): One of my favorite songs from the new album--I was ecstatic and certain I was in for a terrific concert.

  • My Posse Can Do (?): I have never heard this song, as far as I know. Wasn't really interesting to me. This song seemed to be more in her plinky-bar-piano mode, which I'm not fond of.

  • She's Your Cocaine (From the Choirgirl Hotel):
  • Choirgirl is my favorite album, and this is a song I like. I wasn't exactly surprised that she played this, because I heard the (very muffled) soundcheck, and she used this song for the soundcheck. Awesome, though.

  • Dragon (ADP): I really like this song also, and I was getting more excited about the show.

  • Secret Spell (ADP): I didn't remember this song, and wasn't really into it.

  • You Can Bring Your Dog (ADP): I actively dislike this song.

  • Set change. Tori ran off and came back out in a very sparkly green one-piece with a corset around her midsection (this will be relevant later), and what looked like a long red wig. Professional Widow was played while she was changing. Also one of my least-liked songs, and one she has a tremendous attachment to, it would seem.

  • Big Wheel (ADP): Not one of my favorite songs from the new album, but definitely not one that I actively like. It was a great performance, though.

  • A Sorta Fairytale (Scarlett's Walk): This song is also not one of my favorites. It's not like I dislike it, but it only appeals to me once in a while.

  • Black Dove (FtCH): I NEARLY DIED when she started playing this song. It's one of my favorites, mostly because it stands (in my mind) for this longtime character I've had in my head. And it was a really awesome performance, up until the VERY FIRST CHORUS when she suddenly STOPPED THE SONG and dashed off because her corset was too tight.

And then she came back (sans corset) and went into the next song. I WUZ ROBBED!! lol. Still, I am pretty bummed--I really wanted to hear the song.

  • Crucify (Little Earthquakes): Good version, but I'm almost sick of this song already, and I just wasn't that into it.

  • Cornflake Girl (Under the Pink): This song has been so overplayed that I'm pretty sick of it. I think I've already seen it performed live, too, and though it was good, I was impatient while she played it.

  • Honey (B-sides/rarities): I like this song, but I like "Sugar" better. Still, this was nice to hear.

  • Siren (B-sides/rarities): I don't remember this song! I can't find it in my collection, but I did really like it, and I want to hear it again. Even though I have hundreds of Tori tracks, again, she manages to mystify me and pull out something new.

  • The band flees, and "T & Bö" is superimposed over the curtain, and Tori sits down for girl-with-a-piano stuff.

  • Baker Baker (Under the Pink): *yawn*

  • Cloud on My Tongue (Under the Pink): *yawn*

  • Carbon (SW): Ooh! I do like this song, and it was great.

  • Back to the band.

  • Horses (Boys for Pele): I like this song, too, and this was a great performance.

  • Spark (FtCH): YAY! Not only do I like this song a lot, this was a killer performance, just incredible. For the ending words "here is my spark" she held her hands over her heart. So moving and beautiful!

  • Code Red (ADP): I nearly gibbered when she started playing this. I was over the moon! Finally a song I absolutely LOVE. It was FANTASTIC and made the concert for me.

  • Encore - Precious Things (LE): Oh, wow, another of my absolutely favorite songs! This was fantastic, and I enjoyed it tremendously.

  • Encore - Hey Jupiter (BfP): I hate this song with a passion and actually left--it was the final song of the evening, anyway, so it was nice to split before the crowds.

There was an empty seat to my left because my sister felt sick and didn't go. Two girls were sitting to the left of that seat, and one of them kept howling. Seriously, she sounded like a deranged pirate trapped in a girl's body. Most people say, "Whoo!" in a higher-pitched voice--she was shouting, "YEAAAAAHHHHHH" and "UHHHHHHH" in a deep-throated, truly bizarre manner. It was so loud that I kept having to put my hand over my left ear. In fact, when I left, the hearing in my left ear was noticeably affected--she was that loud. What a nightmare.

Well, I never even thought about it, but the people in front of her were really getting the brunt of it, and the people sitting in front of me finally asked them if they wanted to move over. So everyone moved over.

The people behind the stupid twosome kept asking them to sit down--they were the only people standing and dancing in the whole theatre at the time--and the girls shouted, "YOU stand UP!" Which didn't go over well.

Finally they seemed to get the message and sat down, right around T & Bö. They did manage to crack me up during "Cornflake Girl" because Tori was gesturing to the audience to fill in the words "golden gun" (from the line "and the man with the golden gun," which she repeats), and the pirate-infested-girl was singing--er, screaming, no lie--some sort of crazy verbal mess that seemed to contain a few of the words from that line, but not all.

All in all, a very mixed concert. I'm still disappointed about "Black Dove." I'll get over it, though. ;)
