Took my grandma out to dinner because my sister is up visiting my parents and I felt bad about her sitting at home alone on New Year's Eve. Of course, this meant being subjected to the usual hypercritical attitude and passive-aggressive tendencies.

First, this Italian restaurant that she loves was filled to the brim because we had neglected to make reservations. We went to a Chinese place instead.

Then we were seated right next to the smoking section. I am not generally that overly sensitive to smoke, but it was literally as if we were seated next to a machine that was smoking twenty at once. It was so vile that it actually was making me sick.

Then my grandma forgot to order her almond chicken with the gravy on the side. I was treated to a lovely monologue about how ridiculous it is that something that was fried would be subjected to the horrors of being smothered in gravy, because of Teh Ebil Sogginess that results.

Then I paid for dinner, and she started to argue with me. She had told us (the family) last week that she wanted to take us all out for New Year's, but we all said, mom, dad, sis will be gone, so let's make it for a couple weeks later. I called her independently and said that I wanted to take her out for dinner on New Year's Eve. She got a little belligerent and kept arguing that she said she was going to pay for it. It was a little frustrating.

See, she's beginning to get forgetful, and she kept forgetting the second outing with the rest of the family. When I took her back to her house she asked me four times if I wanted something to drink over the hour I was there.

I would like to say Happy New Year to everyone reading this. One of the new things this year was starting a LJ, and I have enjoyed it immensely. I could thank each and every one of you individually, but we'd be here all night, so I'll just say to all of you, "Thank you!" You've made this into a very positive experience. It really is a joy to read my flist each day. I love the creative, witty, and amazing people I've found here. Everyone has such talent. It is so interesting to read what everyone writes about their lives, and it really reminds you that we're all human, with needs, drives, and difficulties.

Flist, you're awesome, and I'm so happy with the group I've friended. 67!

Thank you all for putting up with too much HP, way too much Snape, and the occasional jello mold. Hope I brought you a bit of cheer, and not too much vexation.

Lovely warm wishes to all of you for a wonderful, healthy, and prosperous 2005!

Same to you! I really hope that your sojourn in Australia is everything you've been hoping it would be. It sounds like you're having a really great time so far!

And yes, my grandma is a gem. A nagging, hypercritical, passive-aggressive gem, and I love her still.
