I know what you're thinking...since when have my entries not been random thoughts?

For some reason I ended up watching about ten minutes of the Munsters last night. I always liked the Addams Family; I remember seeing a few episodes, and a couple months ago I watched a small portion of an episode, and I actually laughed out loud. The plot was rather sharp for a sitcom, and the dialogue wasn't half-bad, and I enjoyed it. I don't remember ever watching the Munsters, except maybe a glimpse here or there, because as we were watching I knew a few of the characters, but couldn't figure out who the "normal" girl was. Nor could I figure out what the mom was supposed to be...I thought she might be a Bride of Frankenstein situation, but my friend said she was a vampire. Anyway, the ten minutes that I did watch was so boring and full of slapstick (I am a limited fan of slapstick; the Fish-Slapping Dance is my limit) that I only kept it on because I had to see what made it an enduring show (in that it is still on in reruns). The only bright spot was Grandpa Munster. Everything else? Ugh. Especially awful were the weird moments where the father Frankenstein delivers ponderous cliched sayings to the werewolf son and the laugh track acts up. I have no desire to watch it again. Give me Uncle Fester trying to find a giant emerald in his wall safe and pulling out an ice cream cone.

So I went and did the promotion on the two lists that I belong to. (Poor [livejournal.com profile] aerynstales...you'd better just skip over the rest of this, you've heard it all already in chat!) It's been a day and a half, and no new reviews or anything. And no responses to the promotional posts. It usually seems that when someone gets on the list and mentions their fic they get a few responses of two main types: I've read it, it's great or I haven't read it, but will. But nothing. Then I realized that there is a typo and a strangely worded sentence that should have been fixed that I missed. *headdesk* I hope no one thinks that I am a pain in the ass grammar- and spelling-challenged writer.

But here's a weird phenomenon...I have my fic up in three archives. The most author-friendly has to be Sycophant Hex, which has a wonderful editing system and a great way to interact with reviewers. There is a page where authors can check on the hit rate of their fics. So I usually check there every so often to see how it's going. Most chapters have a hit rate of between 77-125 hits.

Except chapter 58. Which has a hit rate of 291. And climbing. Every day for the last five days it has at least five hits.

I really wonder what is going on. Is it linked somewhere? Who linked it? I'm really wondering about this. Especially since chapter 59 has 92 hits.

I want to run to Best Buy and buy my scanner tonight...and have lovely new icons then! I can't wait to scan in some of my older photos.

On my "Music to Buy This Year" list...
  • Confessa, Adriano Chelentano

  • The Panic, Strata

  • The Sun Always Shines on TV, a-ha

  • Switch it Off, Phil Collins/Sting

  • Night Moves, some girl in the eighties

  • There's Something Going On, one of the girls from Abba/Phil Collins

  • Survivor, Destiny's Child

  • Encore, Jay-Z/Linkin Park

  • Perfect Circle albums

  • Chemicals Between Us, Bush

  • Falco albums

  • Anything I don't have (which wouldn't be much at this point!) or anything new by Tori, Kate Bush, Peter Gabriel, Muse, Disturbed, System of a Down, Three Days Grace, fingereleven

Whew. Must run to dinner.

I used to love the Addams Family when I was a kid and always preferred it to the Munsters because the Addams were believable, whereas you can hardly imagine that someone looking like Herman would actually exist can you, green skin and all. The Addams are more like an eccentric and real Family whereas the Munsters, well, maybe not Lily as she does look like a goth woman, apart from the blue skin, are all too made up. Like you said, the Munsters is all kind of slapstick that gets boring fast.

I want a scanner!!!!

I just brought my scanner home...it is not exactly what I wanted, but it's close enough, so I'm happy.

I think that you're right...the Addams are far more engaging and believable. The Munsters were just a bit too far gone for me.

I loved The Addams Family. I wanted to be Carolyn Jones when I grew up. I still do.

nice musical selection. particularly a-ha - thats an odd one to me now, but i geuss they were bigger than i thought in the eighties. i had that on vinyl i think, and i liked lots. linkin park is something of a guilty listening pleasure for me...perfect circle is pretty good too. do you love his voice?
kate bush is kind of a weird one for me, i am starting to like her, but ive already heard quite a few of her songs before, covered by other bands.
so, you have a pretty big music collection already then?

Yes, I really like...is it Maynard? the guy's voice from Perfect Circle, as well as the lead singer of Breaking Benjamin.

Kate Bush is absolutely amazing, so incredibly influential, so far out and...wow. Her song ideas are astonishingly varied. Songs about Houdini's wife, a Viet Cong soldier, a researcher for an experimental sound weapon, a woman who danced with Hitler...I am blown away by her.

I don't think of it as "big"...I have about 250 or so, which, compared to other people I've met, isn't much. But I'm so finicky about buying them that I end up with less, which is okay by me.

She says skip...so what do I do? Yup...read on! Heh...I can't help it...the curiosity thing kicks in. Bad Aeryn! Don't worry about the reviews, Valis...they'll come. Lots of people prefer to review at the end of a fic rather than chapter by chapter. Personally...I prefer they do it chapter by chapter, so I know if they think the story is still cool...or just off in space. :) But that's me.

Enjoy the scanner! I know I'm loving mine.

I forgot to hook it up when I came home, which is pretty funny, considering how escited I've been to buy one for months.

Oh yes, The Addams Family is way better than the Munsters. I just found them downright silly whereas The Addams' are truly a family. Gomez (my first crush when I was 8) and Morticia really do love each other - and their children as well. They'll take in any family member in need and always show compassion and empathy for others. Lots of lessons learned there. The Munsters? Feh - not so much. And Gomez is a million times sexier than Herman.

Hope you got your scanner set up okay. We recently bought a combined printer/scanner/photocopier and it's fantastic. The one we had before, the scanner never ever worked!

I'm sure you'll get some reviews coming in soon for your fic. The hits thing is odd - I never really check mine much, but it's true that some chapters have a lot more hits than others. Don't know why!

BTW, I saw you had added me on Yahoo messenger - that's great! I have added you as well - was going to ask you actually what your messenger ID was! I checked just now, but you are not logged in at the moment. Maybe tomorrow.

I actually forgot that I had purchased it and did not remember until I had already turned the computer off. *sigh* Hopefully tonight I'll get around to it!

[livejournal.com profile] aerynstales thought that it might be because there were lemons in that chapter, but I said, nope...there aren't any lemons in the fic yet. So we both are stumped.

Feel free to ping me---though sometimes I'm a bit crazy, or I'm about to walk out the door, and I'll let you know I can't chat at that moment. :)
