My friend, who is completely computer-illiterate, is looking for some very basic learning software that would help her learn teh interwebz. Anyone know any sort of software that would guide one through, click for click, on learning how to email, surf the web, etc.? Most appreciated.

Also, has anyone ever bought on eBay using a credit card from a vendor who has AuctionCheckout? Was it better than other cc methods? Did you find it confusing? PLEASE give me ANY input you have--I'm considering using their services.

*huggles the flist*

It's not software, but when the local council employed me to run an introduction to the internet course for community groups, I sometimes sent people to this site. It's helpful, although the reader does need know how to click on links and "next" buttons.

That's a good link. I wish they had that in German so I could send that to my dad... *sighs* I'm his single point of contact on teh interwebz.

I'll still follow this post to see if anyone comes up with SW :-)

The process itself of AuctionCheckput was fine, but having it required freaked me out a bit. Going outside e-bay itself somehow felt...strange and unauthorized. I got feeback from folks who told me it was fine, but it made me nervous at first.

Yes, that's what buggeed me, too. I like the all-ebay functionality. Not that it is really any safer, but it feels authorized and at least to a minimum traceable.

I prefer PayPal to all other methods. I trust Amazon with credit cards, but nobody else.

Paypal is also my preferred method. I'm even more apt to use my CC through paypal because I know their dispuet policies so well.

The thing is, about 25% of eBayers refuse to use Paypal because they hates it. So I need an alternative for that, and it's hard to tell which one people like best or find easiest. I've found forums that hate everything, it seems.

I'm so glad that you found the process fine--because that's what worries me the most.

I've used it twice.

The first time was when I bought bratlet's violin. It was a bit of a pain, it wouldn't let me use the site, kept giving me error messages and whatnot, so I ended up calling the store and having my credit card processed through that way.

The second time was with a "home" ebay vendor. It went through, and somehow charged me twice. The lady I paid caught it immediately, sent me an email and promptly refunded the second payment.

I don't know of any programs that would explain how do do stuff. I've been having a friend come over and been showing her how to do things myself (she's never even touched a computer before I made her log in). Maybe someone who works with elderly people can give you some clues.

I'm just so worried about people not being able to use it. The only reason I'm getting it is because some people refuse to use Paypal, so I would like an alternative, and because I already have a merchant processing account, it (in theory) should be the next logical step.

Thanks for the input, it's really appreciated.
