Plague. Writing.
Mar. 16th, 2009 11:58 amI am now completely sick, most likely a sinus infection. I think I'll actually go to my doctor today. Usually I wait until I'm well past the point of miserable. I'm only at miserable as of yet. But I have a show on Sunday and I need to be ready. I mean, the getting ready part is mostly non-stressful, but the show? I want to be recovered before that. And if I just sit at home and blergh, it'll be a week to ten days, as usual. Plus, this infection is nasal-oriented, unlike the last three, which were throat-oriented with little or no nasal affliction, so I'm super-miserable. I do so enjoy being able to breathe, y'know?
In other news, the 'Nam flashback Riptide story turned out to be a good story, I think. I'm pleased with it, though I still like the TCfC story best of the Riptide stories.
I have this old strange ledger book from when I was a kid that I've been jotting down eBay notes in. Anyway, I was paging through and found a Riptide story I started when we first moved in (December) and I didn't have my computer moved in yet. It was just a bit of a ficlet, written longhand, but it didn't have an ending yet. I've transcribed it into Semagic and I've been tinkering with it a little, but it isn't showing that flash just yet. After I transcribed it I went through the next couple pages, and was surprised to find a little paragraph describing a totally different scenario, one I don't even remember writing down. It's a good h/c scenario, though. So the inspiration just keeps moving ahead.
There's a writer, I think it's Diana Gabaldon, who wrote some sort of writer FAQ equivalent once, where she sighs about people coming up to her and telling her that they have a great idea for a story and that she should write it. And then she points out that she has plenty of ideas already and doesn't need theirs. Heh. Well, maybe she says it in a nicer way. I have to say, I could not possibly run out of inspiration for fanfic stories, seriously. It's just a matter of writing them down. Same with original fic/nonfic. I have so many crowding my head that it's a wonder I have any other thoughts in there at all.
ETA: Doctor's verdict: Sinusitis, round #58.

Isn't it great that there will always be more stories to write? We will always be story-rich, and I find that this is such a relief, if a story is stubborn or noncomplying.

Date: 2009-03-16 04:56 pm (UTC)I absolutely hate being sick at shows. It's not just the exhaustion and misery; it's the fact that you might be infecting others, and oftentimes people won't shop from you if you're sneezing and wheezing. I don't blame them, really!

I am so happy to have ideas--now I just have to work on myself to get myself to write them! I need motivation, lol.

Date: 2009-03-16 05:23 pm (UTC)Going to the doc and getting better *before* the show sounds like an excellent idea, you don't want to deal with those wacky people when you're not feeling well.

Date: 2009-03-16 05:30 pm (UTC)OMG seriously?!! You are so awesome! I'm totally excited now!
And the way things are looking, I think I'll be home those days. *glum*

Oh yeah, I can barely deal with the wackness when I'm feeling good. Right now, when I feel like hell on a biscuit, I can't even imagine dealing with anyone, though I have, many times before. The show must go on, as always.
I'm so geeked to see what it is! *squee*

YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY AWESOME AND CEPHALOPODTASTIC AND YOU ROCK UTTERLY.
*ginormous squidly hugs*
I lurve the eyes most of all--they are SO cool! And it even has hunter tentacles!

Date: 2009-03-22 03:03 am (UTC)The eyes are one of my favorite parts, too. They were supposed to flat felt disks, but I thought they needed *more*, so I monkeyed with the felt til I got something better. My youngest loved the sucker/underside-of-the-tentacle fabric - it was Halloween fabric, it's actually googly Halloween eyes.
I hope the pics you post have him with the hat and magazine, that sounds hilarious!

Date: 2009-03-16 09:40 pm (UTC)yes, this.
I finally started writing my Novel in January. Got three chapters in, when I realized I was writing two completely different stories. And they weren't going to work together. Now I have an almost complete short story, and notes for a different novel than I thought I had. It's fun :)

Me either. I haven't written any in ages, but the ideas keep coming, regardless. Some are crap and deserve to stay in my head, but a lot have merit.

Date: 2009-03-17 05:13 pm (UTC)Yeah, I'm hoping for the same thing. I have a show on Sunday and I would rather not be completely out of my mind for it, lol!

They just don't stop. If I kept a running log, it would be into its 294857623rd volume by now, I think...

Date: 2009-06-22 03:32 am (UTC)True about the story ideas. Not my bailiwick, but I can see them being endless.
Reminds me of the fact that Weird Al won't accept people's ideas for songs. ;D
*HUGS like whoa*

Date: 2009-06-22 03:34 am (UTC)Honestly, I often think I should carry a notepad with me everywhere. I'm constantly thinking of strange new things.

I dig him muchly. He has a new single out...I've not yet had time to watch, but apparently it is a Doors pastiche/medley with craigslist-inspired lyrics! :D
