Today at work I scribbled fanfic notes on a couple of pieces of paper. Then, when my sister called and said she was ready to go (we work together), it kind of caught me by surprise, because she called a few minutes earlier than I expected, and I left the notes there.

Face up.

They're notes for a slash fic.

grah.

Let's see. I don't think I'm screwed because a) I think the raunchiest thing mentioned was a backrub, b) it would be surprising if anyone even looked at my desk before I get back tomorrow morning, and c) they're nearly illegible (on purpose, because I don't want anyone to read what I'm writing, though this does backfire sometimes because then I can't decipher them myself).

Still, I am quite full of grah. I was planning on writing a little tonight.

And, in an entirely ironic turn of events, that crazy Japanese customer I used to bitch about has bid on a bunch of things from me today. I was just talking with [livejournal.com profile] little_tristan about what you can get on LJ easily and what you can't, and I said that I could get anything translated into German in about 2.6 seconds on LJ, but not Japanese, and she said she knew someone who could help with Japanese, and I laughed and said that, thankfully, I had no need of Japanese translation skills, because I haven't seen the crazy Japanese customer in months, which would be the only reason I would need help with Japanese translations. This was two days ago. So of course the universe was listening, and now it's laughing at me. And reading my slash notes on my desk at work. Thanks a helluva lot, universe.

At least my sister brought back a large chunk of my mother's chocolate cake. OM NOM NOM. oh so gooooood.

ETA: Um, now I've lost the two pieces of paper I scribbled notes on yesterday. Not only is the universe laughing, it's insisting that I not write anything tonight. wtf, universe?

Oh good, now I have a reason to read Pact again. Did you know it's the second most read story at DYP? Yes, I watch the stats.

What?!

Are you serious?!

I think I got the least feedback on that fic! That's so funny.

How did you know this? Do they have some sort of list somewhere? *is intrigued*

According to the stats, no one gets feedback so that doesn't mean much. The top tens list is at http://riptide.diagonalfiction.com/eFiction331/toplists.php or just click Top Tens on the browse menu and then Most Read Stories. I've been watching it because my first one is at #5 and I can't figure out why.

Oh, no, I don't think anyone gets any fb at the archive, just about. I meant on LJ.

Yeah, before I went to bed I went and looked through the stats. So interesting!

As for being "most read"...well, I'm always a little suspicious. It just depends on how they compile the stats. Some people leave stories open in tabs in their browser, so every day there could be a new hit, for example...I'm guilty of that.

Yeah, most read really means most clicked. Multi chapter stories count higher because every chapter counts as a read. I don't think leaving it open counts, but clicking into one just to see what it's about does. Still, when one has five thousand clicks and another has twenty, you get the feeling the first one's been read more often. I try to use that to see what people are most interested in, although I still go ahead and write whatever I feel like anyway. :)

The thing is, leaving it open in a tab means it gets reloaded every time I start up the browser. So, at least 10 hits a week would be registered, depending on if it only counts unique hits or not. So I always wonder how many clicks are due to lazy people like myself who leave stuff open in tabs for too long.

Still, I marvel at that number. It really didn't seem like it made much of an impact at the time.

Oh, and hey, you said you've read Pact on the Island, and I think you've read a couple other fics I've written--if you have any thoughts you'd like to share about them, any advice, I'm always interested in that sort of thing. ;)
