It's quite nice out. Cool, slightly overcast, my favorite kind of day.

I have just now broken 50k on the Giant Scary Fic.

I am scanning and cropping. And sorting stuff. oh my! It's going well so far. I love the initial scanning portion--I can write as the scanner cycles. It's a little annoying, but I feel like I'm getting twice as much done, lol.

I have an entry brewing in my head about writing. [livejournal.com profile] catsintheattic has been doing a series of entries about writing, and it's really made me think about my writing process, and how I think I'm inching toward trying to write something commercial.

Ooooh, pretty sunflower :)

50k? Is it a fic or a dissertation?

I adore sunflowers! They're nearly as tall as I am at this point, too. whee!

It's an obsession, is what it is. lol!

YES! I've been thinking and dreaming aobut writing something commercial too. DO IT. You have had so much more practice and thoughtful research on what works and what doesn't...

squee!!

I keep hearing that steampunk and YA are hot right now, and if I can just do some research here and there, I think I really could write this thing. eeee!

Ooh, pretty flower.

I'm wondering, though, if 50k is long, what's average? You have a story to tell, sometimes it takes a while. At what point do you start to think it's getting to be too big? I never really notice volume, but I start to feel longwinded around 30 pages, even when it's mostly double spaced dialogue.

Still, I can't wait to read it; and the longer it lasts, the better. :)

For me, about 10k is usually long enough to get the point across. However, this thing really really mushroomed. Like bigtime. I set up waaaay too big an event, and I need time to get everything into the corner pocket, so to speak. heh.

And I totally feel long-winded at this point. In fact, I usually reread most of a story as I'm writing new sections, but I'm to the point where that's pretty much impossible. Now I'm down to just reading the part I'm writing. I alternate from thinking a) this is total crap and no one will care to read it and b) this is actually kind of cool and has some good moments. Hopefully b will win out in the end.

And as far as it lasting--well, at this point, I don't think I can get away from it with much less than 80k total. Seriously. Maybe 70k if I scrimp a little. grah!

Well, as a person who routinely surpasses 100K, I still say bring it on! And also, sorry. We need to write a fanfic writer's version of the song Little Conversations (I never could say anything in 20K or less...). If only there were a one syllable word for drabble. Damn it. I thought about it too long; now I have to do it. (Little Riptide Ficlets are we.)

But I say, if the boring bits are half the size (or less) of the good bits they connect, it's all good. :)

Today I told Lord Branwyn that I need to quit my job since, for reasons unknown, I have not been able to write since I started working in this place. After he stopped laughing, he said that was fine, but I would need to start selling my writing first. (Which isn't possible when I am not producing anything. *sigh*) He said that I needed to capitalize on whatever the newest craze was--teenaged vampires, whatever. :P
Your sunflower is glorious. I love it when they grow by the highways, planted by the wildlife.

Oh, wow! That's really amazing.

I've gone through two major no-writing phases in the past five years; the most recent was about eight months, and made me feel so guilty and weird.

I'm glad that the writing is flowing right now, though I often get very self-conscious about it while it's coming out of my fingertips; I'm usually wincing while I type, thinking, "Boy, is this corny."

I can't wait to see you, m'friend!!! I'm so totally geeked.

omg, if it gets to 100k I would cry. Seriously. *hides under the bed*

As far as Infinitus--I'd have to see when it's being held. It always comes down to the schedule, unfortunately. I would like to, though! I really missed you guys so much!!

I really hope you can come too! Anneke is playing on getting a timeshare so it will be cheaper to stay there instead of the hotel. And if I have to drag you out from under the bed to be there, well so be it ;-)

Oh lovely flower! Is it in your garden?

Also, is that fic ever going to see the light of day? 50K deserve to be shared with the world :)

Yep, it's in my garden, right up front! I have a whole set of them that I transplanted from elsewhere--they are HUGE. Their stalks are as big around as a quarter, and some of them are taller than me now!

And oh yes--I will definitely be sharing that story. Hopefully the Riptide fans will enjoy it!

It'll soon be time down here to put in sunflowers if I want any this spring.

Good luck with the Fic, it sounds like you've made a lot of headway. I'm in the tail end of proofreading a 200 page cookbook I've spent the last 4 months or so typing up - though fortunately 90% of that was just copying stuff.

These must have grown from seed dropped last year--they were all growing right next to the sidewalk, so I transplanted them into a big cluster in my front bed, and now some are taller than I am. They're beautiful!

I'm definitely in the groove, though I get knocked out of it by going away so often, boo. I'll be gone this weekend, and it's doubtful that I'll get anything written. Though I might get some stuff done on the outline--it could use just a wee bit of fleshing out.

Wow--that cookbook stuff sounds intense. And tedious. Good luck with the proofreading!!
