A little update
Sep. 25th, 2009 11:35 pmI'm still mentally composing an entry on my grandmother. I don't know if it will make it into LJ or not.
I'm a bit behind in my prep for the Crazy Show Week (three shows in eight days). And my day job has requested me to come in on Monday. I leave on Tuesday for WI. This is a bit of a problem.
I'm behind on the Giant Scary Riptide Fic. I'm not happy about this. I really hoped to finish before I left, but I'm a little worried that I won't be able to.
I'm still watching quite a bit of Retro TV, and I've noticed that there are many different levels of writing for the different shows. I don't think I ever really noticed that during the eighties.
I have just found a Simon & Simon fanfic that involves the usual, plus a vampire from the Star Trek universe who is also a private investigator. An incredibly handsome vampire. Named Marty. Who owns a robot who looks just like Jack Simon, the Simon brothers' deceased father. It is both a) wildly imaginative and b) awful.

Date: 2009-09-26 01:26 pm (UTC)(Uh, I might be thinking of the Power Wagon. And Rick. Or the Power Wagon possessed by a vampire. And Rick.)

Date: 2009-09-26 03:48 pm (UTC)And I find that, just like Riptide, the object of my affection has strangely shifted. In the past I was all about Rick. Now I find myself uninterested in him, but liking AJ. Very strange.
I watched a hilarious ep last night--so well-written. It was just like the Riptide ep where the female detectives showed up. These girls show up from a NY detective agency, and they were (of course) just like Simon & Simon, only girrls. But for some reason the writing was a little better and it was just so enjoyable. Seriously. I'm getting a little too fond of this show a little too quickly.

I've been noticing many different levels of writing within each show. Take the A-Team, for example. Solid C for plots, but A+ for dialogue. And double that if it's Murdock.

And yeah, there are definite levels even within the shows--you are so totally right. I'm really liking the plots and dialogue of Simon & Simon--the dialogue, especially, is great.
Murdock dialogue is some of the best in the business, lol!
