My sister and I work at the same company. To save gas (and increase gossip time) we drive to work together.

This morning we were behind a small SUV. We were chatting along, and then the SUV veered sloooowly to the right and began to scrape along at the curb. Then it went back to the center of the lane. We both exclaimed how strange that was.

At the next light, which was red, the SUV got into the right-hand-turn-only lane and slowed down. We were almost parallel when we noticed the SUV slowly approach the car in front of it and tap it very lightly before stopping. The driver was a blond woman in her thirties. She put her head back on the headrest and just sat like that.

My sister and I looked at the car in front of her. There seemed to be no damage; it was a very light tap. I was just trying to find the button for the window so I could shout at the sleeping woman when the woman who'd been tapped got out of her car and went to check the damage.

Then the sleeping woman sat forward again and looked ready to drive.

Have I mentioned that the entire driver's side of the sleeping woman's car was slightly mangled and covered with scrapes?

ETA: No, I did not call the police. I assumed the woman who was hit would call the police. That was probably the wrong decision. :(

I guess I assumed that the woman she hit would call the cops. Probably a dumb assumption. :(

I imagine you could call now, with location and time; that way if she did call and the police needed more information it might help?

If you have more information (like, make and model or anything), I dunno, I might try to call and tell them anyway because if this woman is actually falling asleep and is still driving, she probably needs someone official to tell her seriously, SERIOUSLY, NO. They might tell you you should have called in the first place, but I still think it'd be better to call than not.

That's a really good idea. I just assumed that, because she was behind the woman she'd tapped, that the woman she'd tapped would keep her there while she called the cops. Of course, the sleepy woman might have tried just getting around her...

Holy crap! I second Oddmonster, did you call the police on her, or did the woman whose car she hit? How scary that *could* have been, and it sounds like it was pretty creepy as it was.

I wonder if she *was* sleeping, or having some sort of seizure.

Glad you're okay!

It was a light tap, but the woman she hit clearly figured it out and came out to look. I assumed that she was going to call the cops, but that was probably a stupid assumption. :(

Probably. I assumed that the woman who was hit did the calling, but I probably should have called myself. :(

I'm not certain. I have a friend of a friend who went on anti-depressants and would fall asleep during the drive to work, so it could be something like that. *nodnod* Or maybe she was just tired.

Eeep! Ya just never know what the driver in the next car is gonna do...

Don't feel bad, hon. Since there didn't appear to be any damage, she probably would've driven off, and the police most likely couldn't have done much at that point.

Yeah, it was pretty weird. And because she was still behind the woman she'd tapped, I just assumed that the woman she'd tapped would take care of it. *nodnod*

Don't beat yourself up about not calling the police. The woman who was "tapped" probably did it herself, as you say. An irratic driver might be under the influence or a hypoglycemic diabetic or any of about a hundred other things, but, even if she did start rolling along with traffic again, I can almost guarantee that somewhere along the line someone called the po-po on her.

Aw, thanks. I was really starting to feel horrible about the whole thing. I really do think that the lady who was nudged did something about it, though. *nodnod* :)
