So today we are hosting Thanksgiving at our place. Yeah, a little behind, but that's okay, because my sister had plans for yesterday.

My mom and dad are staying with us, and my mother has graciously agreed to cook today, thank goodness.

We still have some cleaning to do, and it's just a wee bit stressful because there will be a total of thirteen people here today. We've never hosted that many for dinner. I'm a little scared. Both uncles and aunts will be here, and three of the four have never seen the house before, so I want to make certain that it's clean and things are picked up. *crosses fingers* Also, Husband's grandmother will be staying the night, too. meep.

My washer and dryer have both decided to die at the same time. I mean, the washer was having a few issues in the past month or two, but the dryer was apparently jealous of all the attention and decided to start making an annoying noise out of the blue. My father checked out both and decreed: new appliance time.

So we got up at five this morning and went out to Lowe's, who was running a special deal on the Whirlpool Duet appliances, and I am a very happy (and broke) Valis indeed. The washer is a frontloader and promises to save lots of water. And they're both probably far more efficient than the pair we have now, which is at least fifteen years old, or maybe older.

This will be an interesting evening, flist. There's a special kind of terror I have for hosting social occasions, and it's heightened by family, and eee. Plus, with having the houseguests, it's not like we can collapse afterward.

Relax! Time now for Valis to practice her deep breathing exercises...and if that doesn't help, might I suggest a cup or two of mulled wine before the guests arrive? ;-)

Don't fret about how clean the house is - your guest will be more apt to notice that the bathroom is out of TP than they will the few magazines still left out on the coffee table (unless those magazines happen to be of the pictorial type with titles like 'Stud Bunnies in Lust' in which case... Congratulations! You've just hosted a Thanksgiving dinner that people will talk about for years! LOL!)

Your mom's doing the cooking so you can blame any problems in the food area on her. Any minor difficulties that arise tonight when you bed down your guests you can blame on the fact that you're a home, not a hotel. See? You've got all your bases covered.

So relax and have a nice family Thanksgiving. *hugs*

P.S. Washers and dryers mate for life. When one expires, the other rapidly mourns itself to death.

My only fear with that is that I won't be able to stop! *grins*

hahaha!!! Yeah, that could be embarrassing. I'll have to make certain that I turn my computer off or that could lead to just the same sort of conversation. *giggles*

*grins* Yes, let's hope for the best! As long as I can keep my humor going, I think it'll work out. *hugs*

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! :)

This is SPOOKY. Seriously. I mean, they really both have major issues at the SAME TIME. wow!

And as of the eleventh, they won't be my problems anymore, though. *sighs in relief*

Yes, appliances always choose the least opportune time to give up the ghost. We bought our first front-loading washer about a year ago, and the difference is amazing. It is so much quieter and causes much less wear on the laundry while actually getting it cleaner. Definitely worth the extra cost over a top-loader. On some models, the door gasket can develop a moldy smell, but you can prevent that by always leaving the door ajar so the gasket can dry. Be careful when you buy detergent. Claims that a brand is concentrated don't necessarily mean it is designed for a high-effficiency washer. Look for the designation "HE".
Have a Happy late Thanksgiving! Everything will be fine.

I'm so excited about this washer/dryer combo--I can't wait to see if they make a difference in energy usage!

Hilariously enough, I was certain we had an electric dryer, and it turns out we don't. We have a gas dryer. And yeah, I'm already planning on looking for HE stuff. Thank you so much!!

:) Thank you for the happy thoughts!! *hugs*

So you got to hear what all the hub-bub was about yesterday before you had your own gathering. That way, you won't have any surprises. :D

Well, except for the washer and dryer...

Oh, there are always surprises, no matter how well-prepared you think you are! lol.

And grah on appliances in general. The dishwasher will be next, I think. grah!!

When you start to feel too stressed, just close your eyes and think about the lovely new washer. (Mmm, front loader...) Or, if that doesn't work, Nick. No, wait, you mustn't drift away entirely. Stick with Cody.:)

Do you at least have one of those helpful relatives who insists on cleaning up after? I have an aunt who used to have the leftovers put away and half the dishes washed while the rest of us were still putting the Cool Whip on our pie. Best houseguest ever.

Oh dear, if I think of Nick, you're right--I might disappear into another room entirely. lol!

No, nobody cleans up after except us, which is fine--Husband is great at it, he really enjoys it. :) But yeah, that sounds like the best houseguest ever. wow!

Oh, my. Hosting a major dinner + guests not leaving immediately afterwards + dying appliances = major stress time.

Hope it went okay. Happy belated Thanksgiving. *hugs*

Sadly, my parents ran away early this morning, and I already miss them. Husband's grandmother is visiting friends and will be back for lunch, as well as my sister and her boyfriend, so at least we'll make a dent in the Leftoverpalooza, lol.

Thank you so much! *hugs in return*
