[Recap: Some of you might remember that at one of the HP conventions, [livejournal.com profile] gmonkey42 and I put together a Snape and his Mary Sues presentation. In order to put the presentation together, we had to read a bunch of HP fanfics featuring Sues who were paired with Snape. The other night, I was scribbling notes on scrap paper, and realized that the paper in question was from a printout of the spreadsheet that we built to house the data. And then I started laughing at the quote, and I thought that we really should share the profiles because they're just too much fun not to.]

  • Name of Sue: "The Lady In Black" Seth Desero

  • Eye color: left one "soft, dusky blue", right one "forest green, it's [sic] pupil surrounded by a corona of gold"

  • Hair color: red "sanguine"; "long, straight tresses"; "spills all over her shoulders like a river homicide-scene"

  • Other: short

  • Outcast or beloved: beloved

  • Tragic past: tragic past in the future, which is her past, sort of

  • Went to Hogwarts with Snape/Marauders?: no

  • House: Slytherin, same year as Fred & George

  • Special possession: a silver necklace with a crystal, which is basically a mood ring

  • Moment of totally overblown temper?: beats up Draco

  • Totally uncharacteristic Snape moments: generally whiny and emo. Like more so than in canon.

  • Relationship with Snape: wife from the future

  • Sue House: Angstywaah

I love the way the above features are clearly supposed to look gorgeous, when if you encountered someone unfortunate enough to look like this in real life, you'd run screaming for the exits.

YES!! Exactly. This character sounds like she belongs in a horror film. As the starring horror. *shivers*

Actually, I have to say that's a very nice, if somewhat graphic, description. *L* Not attractive particularly, but evocative.

That was such an awesome trip. Trying to find a restaurant in the hinterlands of MI...lol!

And omg, yeah, it is absolutely astonishing how this stuff proliferates. heh. Though, I have to say that it's quite amusing to read, so at least it's good for a laugh, and for instruction on how Not To Write. lol!

It really is a strange and unusual picture, and it would probably be awesome in a noir piece. But this? lol! It didn't really work. hee!

You know, a few Mary Sueish traits can be overcome with good writing. Maybe even more than a few.

This, of course, is Everest going avalanche.

Having now read "New York Times Best-Selling" Laurell K. Hamilton, I've come to the conclusion that the market has a big appetite for sue.

I've heard that before about Hamilton.

And considering some of the movies I've seen, yep, the market really does have a big place for Sue and her various iterations.
