Word thinks "manticore" should be "mantic ore" or "manicure".

I don't know about you, but having a "manicure" rampaging about in a fic is just not as awe-inspiring as a manticore. Seriously.

Oh, I don't know. I've seen some seriously scary manicures. But WTF is "mantic ore"?

It's a frenetic orc with a rather craggy appearance.

Or a rock with rather hyperactive mineral deposits.

Well, I'm a manicurist/nail tech by trade, and I've seen some pretty darn scary manicures. And you don't even want to know about the pedicures!

Heh.

But do you think it would frighten hardcore Death Eaters? Excepting Lucius, of course.

Toenail fungus is a truly scary thing, I'm telling you. *winkitywink*

Something tells me that toenail fungus is a way of life for Goyle.

Oh gawd. Now I'm having a plot bunny about a bad magical manicurist spreading ugly colour and jagged nails and cuticles every time she waves her wand...

A bad pedicurist could do a lot of damage too. "Bunionesco!"

Word can be so amusing, honestly. Some of the grammar "mistakes" it corrects are awful too.

First Snape gets attacked by a rampaging manicure, then next, someone tries to wash his hair.

The horror, the horror!

There once was a thrice fierce manticore
Whose rages were fiercely manic or
Rather depressed.
Bipolar, I guess,
'Til lithium became its manic-cure.

Bad, I know, but what can you expect on the fly? Not literally what Word thought, but perhaps close. And nothing dirty about it. Gee, maybe I'm recovering?

Somehow, Word never ceases to amuse me. Lots of the suggestions are completely insane. I always wonder who invents these things. I mean, there must be people who put all the words into it, right? Then who the hell is in this company, putting in all the weird words?

I vaguely recall some sort of funny thing about Windows 98 Word...where if you typed "Bill Gate Sucks" in as a phrase to be checked it would say something sympathetic in return...
