I will do my little Tori review right now while it's still fresh in my mind. Then I must must must fill out my checks for the taxes of dhûm and then I'll be crashing in bed.

So [livejournal.com profile] morricone1900 was absolutely right. It was all about the Tori, the Piano, and the Organ. She was wearing this very flouncy floaty dress over black bicycle shorts. She referenced last year's concert and mentioned the blackout, and said that every time she comes to Detroit something "naughty" happens, which was amusing.

She was very good, as always, but I am not a fan of Tori w/piano, I like Tori electronica, so it wasn't the best experience. Last year's concert was amazing for me, while this one was just very good. That doesn't mean bad! It just means that it wasn't all my cup of tea.

Songs played? Hmm...I really have to concentrate here.

Highlights for me included Bells for Her, Spring Haze, Jamaica Inn and Blood Roses. And Rattlesnakes was an encore song. Plus a song about living next to Abbey Road that I've never heard before. Icicle.

Other songs she played? Jackie's Strength, which I really don't like much. Songs from Boys for Pele...Not the Red Baron, and Horses. Snow Cherries from France, from her Greatest Hits album. Leather. Lots of stuff (at least four) from the Beekeeper, including the aforementioned Jamaica Inn and Mother Revolution. The second encore included Silent All These Years, another song I don't care for at all.

Bizarrely enough, the song I love most off Beekeeper, the title track, was played in the first encore, and it was almost a funeral dirge. It was so slow and ponderous that I just wanted it to finish already. It was really monotonous and not very enjoyable. And I love that song most from that album.

She played two covers during "Tori's Piano Bar". She played Bob Seger's "Turn the Page", after looking through "local boys and girls" and commenting that "No, I don't want to do her, fuck her. I've done her" which I assume is in reference to Madonna, who is from Michigan. She also played a Beatles song...what is it...Penny lane or whatever the title is. Both were quite good.

The audience was weird. Some people were yelling a lot at her. She kept trying to talk and kept getting interrupted.

We ended up in box seats somehow, which was nice. There was a guy in the box seats in the middle who kept shouty mcshouting to his friends and I really wanted them to gang up and throw him off the balcony.

All in all, an enjoyable experience. I love her. Now the taxes, and then bed. so tired

Aww...the Abbey Road song. She first recorded that in 1996 as some sort of lost b-side, and it's a song she rarely does. It's interesting that she's resurrected it after all this time...assuming it's the same song (whose lyrics begin something like "walking down abbey road....so close to a family way...").

"Snow Cherries from France" is one of my favorite songs from her more recent vintage. I look forward to hearing this Detroit version on the usual online downloads soon. :)

I heard a version of her lugubrious, organ-oriented version of "Beekeeper" online just two days ago, and found it dreadful. I don't get it. And it was like 13 minutes long!! I should be fond of that song though, since somewhere in the middle of it she sings something like " someone take this message to Michael." ;)

Speaking of Tori's electronica (as you were), that remixer guy named BT did a whole bunch of remixes of a couple of songs (including multiple remixes of a really obscure b-side called "blue skies") back in the late 90s. Have you ever heard any of those? they're not my cup of tea, but they might appeal to you.

i like tori best with just her and the piano, live. :) so appreciate that she still is occasionally touring like this. i'm glad you enjoyed it at least a LITTLE bit! :] she's been playing a few madonna songs lately ("like a prayer" comes to mind), so maybe she's on some kinda madonna kick...

Yes, that was exactly the Abbey song, and it was quite good, I enjoyed it immensely. SC from F was okay, I'm not totally into that myself.

Beekeeper made me want to leap from the balcony. Plus she played it on this organ with an intensely shrill noise, and it really hurt my ears to listen to it.

I've heard BT's mix of Talula (of course) but I'm trying to remember any others. Generally I don't like remixes of her work, to be honest. I have several remixes on some of the singles, and they don't appeal to me at all. I like her electronica.

She might be on a Madonna kick, but she certainly was on an anti-Madonna kick here...I was quite surprised that she said "fuck her", honestly.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that she opened with "Original Sin", which was great.

I slept decently...will sleep better over the weekend, I think. I have a little craft show in someone's home tonight, and was obsessing over it and taxes as I was trying to sleep...

Oh, I'm so green with envy - greener than my green Snape! How I would love to see her, even once... But don't think she's ever been to Finland, nor intending to in the immediate future. I'd pay sums I don't have to see her live.

And now I have Silent All These Years playing in my head, thanks:)

I'm on a mailing list for her, and they mentioned some of her international tour dates, which turned out to be in Australia. I'll let you know if I hear anything, but you'll probably hear it first..
