I have scheduled a surgical procedure in August. I am so excited and happy. I have...hmm...let's just put it in simple terms...droopy eyelids. When I was growing up one eyelid ended up being considerably lower than the other, and I had surgery to correct it. Over the last few years the other eyelid has been drooping badly. It bothers me to no end, because it cuts off part of my vision, and it forces the other eye to do most of the work, which gives me headaches. I'm certain the original eye will start drooping in the next few years, but still, it will be so nice to have some time where I'm not paranoid about having a larger blind spot while I'm driving.

Plus, I am heartily sick of being at shows and having people approach me from the droopy-eyed side and snicker, "Aw, falling asleep?" This happens at least a couple times per show. I usually turn to them so that they can see both eyes and say, in an extremely non-sleepy voice, "Not yet." I will be so happy not to hear these stupid comments any longer, though I understand that it's a common conversational thing between vendors.

I'm also looking forward to not feeling weird about looking people in the eye. I just always hope that no one is uncomfortable carrying a conversation on with me. And I hate that potential customers see it, and I always worry that they're kind of squicked by it and that they leave my booth sooner than intended.

And I'm looking forward to not wincing when I see pictures of myself.

And the procedure (even with all of the add-ons) will only cost half of what I had thought.

Happy day!

Hey, good for you doing something that will make you feel better about yourself and help with your vision! I'm glad you are able to get this done.

Aside from a fairly typical, "Surgery! Errrgh!" that sounds like good news. And I think anything that makes you feel good about you is money well spent.

yay for surgery then! Normally I view surgery as a really scary thing, but you sound excited about it, so hooray!

Hmm...I don't know whether to be sorry for you, or excited for you, but I'll just wish you good luck. It doesn't sound like fun, and I'm sorry you have to do it at all.

My son has ptosis too - you're in good company! They said in his case that it didn't impair his vision, though, so he didn't have surgery. It does make his eyes look very sleepy and sexy - I'm sure the girls will be crawling all over him when he's a teenager. Maybe the boys too.

Good luck! I hope it all goes well. I've got a friend with the same condition in one eye. She's never had surgery, but she doesn't have the headache problems either.

Yes, even though this procedure is generally "cosmetic", in my case it's "required". :) And it will make me feel like such a hawt babe. *giggles*

It is scary. I thought it would just be an office thing, and it can be done in an office, but it's still going to require teh ebil general anesthesia, which sucks, because the only other time I've had it I threw up and was very unhappy. But the end result is so completely worth it!

heh! It only affects one eye at a time for me, unfortunately, so I look like a scary half-asleep person or something like that. I hope your son's doesn't worsen...mine is really causing me some issues.

It's really obscuring so much at this point that it causes eyestrain after an hour or two of intense eyesight usage, i.e., driving/computer use. Since I do both of those a lot, it's time for the surgery. Plus I look scary.

Me too! This will lead to more efficient lemming shellacking, though, so it's worth it.

Lemming. To lemm. Hmmm...Today I lemm, tomorrow I will lemm, yesterday I lemmed.

Ah, the joys of conjugating nonexistent verbs...

Tomorrow: to herr.

Good luck with the surgery exclamation it sounds as if you're talking about a blepharoplasty and it definitely sounds as if it is medically necessary and therefore should be covered by your insurance. It's been a while since I handled health insurance, but if you need any help, please let me know.

And, yes, it is most definitely a blepharoplasty.

Yay, that's great! Hope everything goes well for you with the surgery. It's got to be tough having it affect your vision like that. I have an ear infection right now & can't hear very well out of my right ear and it's making me crazy. And it's only been a week. I can't imagine having my hearing or vision affected for very long.

It's so slow that it isn't really obvious until one day when you've driven eight hours and you've developed a monster headache and you realize that one of your eyes has gone completely blurry and has been blurry for the last six hours.

When I noticed it, I wasn't in the position to get the operation, but I am now, thank goodness! Thanks for the well-wishing.

Your worry that people leave your booth sooner because of the way you look infuriates me. I wish you didn't spend so many years wincing at your own pictures because the brilliance of your writing cannot be offset by one droopy eyelid. Even though I haven't seen your "merchandise" that you've crafted, I imagine it is very good if it has been your livelihood for so long. You seem like such a friendly and funny person on this LJ that there's no excuse for you to feel like this.

I believe that you would not be squicked at others with physical defects, and if I'm right, then you shouldn't think like those who would about yourself.

Of course, I also wish you luck and maximum comfort during your surgery.

I had this procedure before, and it was a week with an eyepatch, and another week before I stopped looking like Frankenstein, but the procedure has changed tremendously and now it's In 'N' Out for me!
