Artwork for the Last Sanguimagus!
Aug. 3rd, 2005 02:28 pmI am jumping up and down in delight. The fabulous
ac1d6urn has nearly completed a commission for me, a commission to bring Sarah Tanner and tLS Severus to life. And she has achieved it, and it looks better than I ever envisioned it. I've been dancing around on a cloud for days!
Even more unusual, it has really affected my thoughts about the story. Having a visual depiction of the character is so helpful I can't believe it. I'm more of a textual thinker than a visual, and often I lose track of details or I can't keep an image in my head very well. Having Sarah so thoroughly delineated is wonderful in ways I'd never even expected.
ac1d6urn is such a great artist, too! I always wanted fanart, but I could never ask someone to create it for me. I was so excited when she said she would take commissions that I nearly jumped out of my chair.
The image is underneath the cut, and is a bit large, so dialup beware. Er, it could be considered a mild spoiler (very mild) for anyone who is following the story, too, but it's so mild, I almost don't think a warning is necessary.
I think I'm going to use the icon everytime I babble about tLS, too. A great little organizational tool, eh?

Do you see what I mean? The bloody hand, the absolutely PERFECT Severus, the beautiful wand effects...SQUEE!!! This is so amazing, I'm just going nuts.

Date: 2005-08-03 06:44 pm (UTC)I love the bloody hand...she did such an absolutely amazing job on it. I wanted the bloody hand to be the focus of the piece, and it certainly is. She captured Sarah's plainness perfectly, and I love the understatedness of the piece. It's just about as perfect as I could hope for.
And the Severus is amazing. EXACTLY as I had pictured him.
Congrats!!
Date: 2005-08-03 06:38 pm (UTC)Speakign of which, Imma gonna hijack this reply and say - we have to plan a meetup!! August? September? L got fired this week (big drama), so his schedule is open at least for the near future. What about you and G? (What up G?, sorry couldn't resist!). Call me or I'll call you. What number is best to call you on? cell or home? I still have them both.
Re: Congrats!!
Date: 2005-08-03 06:45 pm (UTC)L got fired?! Oh no!! That's awful! *hugs to you both*
Yes, definitely call me...try the home first, and if that doesn't work, the cell. I'll be gone the rest of the week at a show, but I have my surgery next Weds, so I'll be home lots for the next two weeks after that.

Date: 2005-08-03 06:58 pm (UTC)And I've been absolutely GIDDY! This is awesome!
I can totally see how this would inspire you and make you reflect.
Yes, it is totally inspiring! I always looked at your art/icons and thought, wow, how nice to have a visual representation of your characters. It really makes them come alive. And I thought to myself, self, in the future you should do the same thing. So thank you for the idea! *hugs*

Date: 2005-08-03 07:08 pm (UTC)I'd love to commission her, seriously! But the funds simply wouldn't allow it. What kind of pic is yours? *Sighs* I'd love to see someone's take on Celene. I have a friend who is going to do the scene from the first chapter...with Celene surrounded by Death Eaters but still swinging fists. *Snicker* But she's moving in August to Washington State, so is a wee bit busy. Though I love her sketches of Hecate.
And *blushes* thank you for saying I gave you the idea. Heh...my little pics aren't nearly as good as this. But yes, the visual aid really helps, especially I see scenes like a movie in my head...helps me to orient myself.
Enjoy the giddies! You totally deserve it, darling! :D

Date: 2005-08-03 07:15 pm (UTC)Of course, this just makes me want to illustrate the whole damned thing. ha!
I'm really amazed at how much this affected my thoughts about the character! I have a much more vivid image of Sarah in my head now, and it really has changed some things. I see now why you are so eager to draw! It really does help!
*enjoys the giddies*

Date: 2005-08-03 10:45 pm (UTC)I love Sarah too, she looks pale and worn. (Strangely, I imagine her as a blonde...I think it's because you describe her as being nondescript and tired looking, so I always imagine her with dark blonde hair.)
I'm not surprised you're so excited! :-))

Date: 2005-08-03 10:58 pm (UTC)I'm so excited that you liked it! It was probably the most advanced work with people in it that I've ever done. *shakes head* Must fix the scarab and mail the final result. Dialup connection, beware. *grabs tablet pen*

Date: 2005-08-04 12:20 am (UTC)It exceeds my expectations, and (as you probably could tell), I am a really picky person. It is just wonderful and has changed things in ways I never expected. I can't thank you enough.

Date: 2005-08-06 06:20 am (UTC)Sarah's eyes seem to feel chillingly aimless. It's a very beautiful piece.
