Odd day.

While having lunch with my boss I heard my name and looked to the booth next to us, where [livejournal.com profile] hairboy was sitting. He is a friend of my ex-fiancee and it was surprising to see him. The last time I saw him was, hmmm, three years ago, and before that...six years? five years? Thank goodness my brain didn't decide to suddenly go blank and refuse to retrieve his name, as it is wont to do in some situations.

I've noticed that people sometimes have to trim their f-lists. (I'm still learning the ropes here, forgive me.) I wonder how they manage to do it and not hurt people's feelings. I may be new to LJ, but I used to help run a BBS years ago, and was fairly active in the local BBS scene, and if there's one thing you notice, it's that people can be a bit sensitive in cyberspace. Without the very real physical presence of a person in front of you sometimes it seems as if you have nothing holding you back. And it's so easy to shout at each other in all caps. I still remember the first time I got into an altercation online (and even what it was about!), and that was a crazy experience.

Anyway, this is looking to be a fairly random LJ entry, so I might as well include two more odd high school poems. (The poems are odd, not the high school.)

FOOTPRINTS

You can't always get what you want, said the footprint moodily. You'd think you'd know that by now, you big walking carbon-nitrogen-oxygen-hydrogen mass. But no, you'd rather drag around in those crazy gymshoes of yours. I may just be the hollowed out imprint of your shoe, but I am very knowledgeable---

A wave suddenly disintegrates the nagging footprint. But many more still lie on the tan beach, complaining.

FURNACE DUCTS

...are the real key to existence. Haven't you noticed how they collect dimes and christmas ornaments and rolled up aluminum foil and flashlights and dustbunnies?

Scream if you want to, but the real future lies in using the resources these shy but prolific vents have to offer.

Okay, it can't compare to [livejournal.com profile] snapesforte's lovely sonnets, but I was only fifteen at the time after all.

I am leaving Saturday for WI, will be back Monday...I have so much to do...WHY AM I ONLINE?!! Oh, avoidance. That's right.

I'll be certain to wave back!

This trip is pretty hurried...next one will be incredibly unusual, I'll be stopping in WI on my way to MN, and then on the way back again. Let's try to get together then! I think I'll be driving near Madison. I'm certain it will work out, at the very least for dinner.

Oooh...filtering the friends list? Very interesting. The more I see of LJ, the more impressed I am.

And doubling the tolls? Grrr!! I guess I'll just have to save even more pocket change. Or break down and buy the &*%#^ I-pass.
