This is the first year in many where I will actually be getting a return instead of paying.

I am understandably pleased.

What happened is that for the first time I was on the ball and paid estimated taxes beforehand. So of course, the Universe laughed and said, well, this will be the one year where you didn't need to, so you'll get it all back and more. Ha! Ha! You could have used it this whole time, but it sat in an IRS account! Ha!

I'm not complaining, though, because that invites worse to sit down next to you, as Bill Cosby would say.

Congratulations! It's always so nice when you can get money back rather than having to pay them more. ;)

It certainly is! Every year I do the Crazy Spring Dance, because I have the most bills at this time of the year.

-entry fees for most of the art fairs
-entry fees for most of the other shows I do
-purchasing new inventory for the year
-membership fees for retail-oriented organizations
-taxes.

And this is the time of the year when I usually have NO SHOWS and no income coming in at all.

Kind of makes me wish I anted more, instead of grasshoppered! ;)

I like that phrasing! It's very appropriate, and I know the feeling well. ;)

Yes, definitely! After the last several years of paying, and paying more, and paying more, I'm definitely ecstatic. ;)

Wow, you are so lucky to get money back. We NEVER get money back. Hubby has the same problem with self-employment that you do, but he never seems to pay quite enough. This year we owed $5400 federal and $300 something to state. I guess at least we get off easy and don't have to pay city taxes too, since we live in a township. I always have this mad pang of jealousy when my friends whose husbands have normal jobs tell me about how they just got their tax return and are buying this and that or using it for some fab vacation.

I know exactly what you're talking about! Nearly everyone I know is happy as hell to get their return, they go out and buy the entire Buffy series or something, and I'm always wooooooe is me, I must built an installment plan with the government.

I am so happy about this I could scream, though I am a little sad that I sent in all that money for nothing, and I could have used it for other things...

If it makes you feel better, when you get a refund all you are getting is money you should not have paid in the first place...

In other words...when your friend gets his, oh lets say $2500 refund what is happening is that the government is paying back a loan it took from him and not even paying interest on it. Even though the government got to earn interest on said funds and use them on whatever pointeless program they chose to spend it on...

So by having to PAY them you basically get to revel in the fact that it's the government scrounging for loose change in the sofa cushions.

Hopefully this helps you feel better about having to pay....

It does help a little, but I'd be happy if we just broke even. Or only owed a couple hundred bucks rather than several thousand every year. Coming up with that much money every April really sucks.

Thanks! I'm certain I'll enjoy it, though it most likely will go towards debt.

Yeah, well, Liam's refund that I was counting on to repay me for paying rent the last two months - STOLEN by the feds for child support to Michelle. Effing taxes.

Ah, yes. That happened to my ex for YEARS as well. Once you have "back child support" owed, that's it. :(

*hugs*
