So I log into gmail, and I see eight comment notifications for a single entry. I think, oh yay, the fanfiction entry was linked to [livejournal.com profile] metafandom, this must explain the nice, healthy number of comments!

No, not at all. The eight comments were for the TV Guide M&M Horror. There was only one comment for the Giant Entry about Writing Fanfiction.

I should have remembered the Catspam Rule. What, you may ask, is the Catspam Rule? I've just decided that it's this:

The number of comments you will receive for an entry about a life-changing decision is inversely proportional to the number of comments you will receive for posting pictures of your cats.

*laughs like an idjit*

*lurves the flist*

One cool thing...apparently someone is going to try to translate the afore-mentioned Ginormous Heigh Ho Let's Punctuate And Stuff fanfiction entry into Spanish! I hope it happens. That would be cool.

ETA: This isn't meant to poke you and be all like, "yo YO, read my mofo fanfic entry." It's more of a wry giggle about how much we lurves us some cats here in LJland. ;)

Yes, my kitty picspams get the most comments of anything I post. Hands (or rather paws) down.
I printed out your entry about writing fanfiction (which I skimmed and thought looked excellent) but haven't had time to read it this weekend. Partly because I was writing fanfic, which is the appropriate excuse. :-)

Hee! This wasn't meant as a *poke* at all, I'll edit it to add that in. ;)

We lurves us some cats here in LJ land, is all. *grins*

This is completely true. If I make a serious post, I get maybe a couple of comments - sometimes none. But a silly post, or a post of the kids or the new puppy? Comments galore.

... alright, maybe not galore, as not many friends seem to reply to my posts regardless of the topic, but more comments than a serious post.
Poor me, I'm Frieda-friendless. *has a pity party*

Hee!

For some reason Comments galore is making me giggle, because it reminds me so much of Inigo saying Humiliations galore.

But it's so true. We love fun stuff here. I also think sometimes people are hesitant to comment on more difficult entries. I know I sometimes have to really think about what to say, because I don't want to be insensitive by accident, you know?

Of course we lurve cats. ;-) They are cuuuute and rebellious at the same time.

And of course it's easier to squee about a kitty pic than to give a well thought comment on a good essay.

You could not have put it better. Yes, that is exactly right!

And disturbing M&M clocks, apparently. :-)

Seriously though, I did read your fanfiction essay - both parts - and I really enjoyed it. Much of it - about plotting and POV and staying in character, etc - is stuff that really should be taught when students do creative writing at school, but sadly doesn't often seem to be.

Who would have thought that they would have such an appreciative audience? *laughs*

I did read your fanfiction essay

Oh, yay! Thank you so much. I think that most of the flist has seen it one time or another, and that's why there are fewer comments this time around.

Yes, I've noticed the trend too... And there's me, thinking that I really ought to post art and stories and essays and stuff, when a blurry picture of a cat is all it takes to get the darling flisties talking ;P.

But they are darlings, and that's what counts :D.

Maybe you should write a post telling cats how to write fanfiction?

Yeah, well. I've been vastly sporadic about reading stuff lately. I'm even worse about writing especially after I was so damn sick. But cats... That business of mine? The one where I'm making cat toys? Yeah.

Cat in icon is catnip quality inspector, BTW. He was only a kitten when that pic was taken. Can't have just any catnip--the bastard needs to check it out.

Will be scrolling back and now you have my attention for your long entry, just so's you know.

I swear, I think LJ is definitely more cat-obsessed than dog-obsessed. Cats everywhere! And catspam gets the best response.
