Hello, I was the winner of the item : [blah blah blah video game title] for $6.00 and I'm going to pay you the item and the shipping. ABout the method to pay, I live in [town name], Alabama, so the best way for me is to pay you by a bank account, I just need your account numbers of different banks and I'll send you the money and after you get it, you send the GAME to my address. If you know another way tell me please. Thank you.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!

He doesn't seriously think I'm going to send him my bank account numbers, does he?

*dies*

Just tell him you don't have a bank account and that he can send stamps.

I was thinking of asking him to hop on one leg for a week and provide video evidence of it. I mean, seriously. I could keep this going for a while.

Maybe he's all of seven years old? Or he's related to those people in Nigeria who keep e-mailing me to ask about my bank accounts in connection with lottery winnings and various investments. :D

I'm just flabbergasted, honestly. I mean, what the hell? Does he think I'm that stupid?

You're right--I'm halfway expecting some sort of strange stuff about investments locked up and needing a US account to facilitate them...

Tell him you will require his Social Security Number, all of his credit card numbers with expiration date and secret code from the back, a blood sample, and the left pinky of his firstborn in order to comply with his request.

I'll put on my "I Have Faith in Humanity! I Do! I Do!" cap and suggest that he wants to pay by having his bank make a wire transfer from his account to yours.

Hey, he's buying archaic video games--maybe he's still got one technological foot firmly planted in 1987.

Or maybe he just doesn't trust online payment methods, and hasn't the brainmeats to realize that a "wire transfer" these days is done online?

He might as well just buy a money order at the post office and mail it to you.

I was thinking the same thing--he must be thinking he can just transfer the money. He's very very new--0 feedback.

I'm still giggling.

Poor guy. I really hope he does get a money order--that would be the easiest thing for his poor Luddite brain to handle.

(PS: there is cat poetry for you in chat.)

You must have different systems there, because I sell most of my ebay stuff via bank transfer. Ebay has all my bank account and bsb numbers on file and sends them to customers directly so they can make payments.

(Not quite sure why he needs different banks, though... that's an odd request).

I use Paypal, which is essentially the same thing, but handles it for you so that neither person has bank account numbers or credit card numbers for our own safety.

I use paypal, but the fees are high for a seller. Bank transfer has no fees for either buyer or seller, so it's more popular with local sellers. In fact, a lot of Australians won't take paypal, they will only take bank transfer, which I find annoying as there is more work in bank transfer for a buyer. As a buyer I like paypal, but as a seller I like bank transfer as it saves considerable cash.

BTW, I'm not saying you should trust this guy. If you smell hink, it's probably hinky, just that I use bank transfer all the time with no problems. BYMMV.

I probably wouldn't be so *eyeroll* about it if he had contacted me prior to bidding.

Contacting me after he's won said item? Grr.

Haven't done a bank transfer--I'm just a little skeeved by the idea, truthfully.

According to the spellchecker, I should be sleeved by the idea. Now I'm all entranced with thinking about sleeve as a verb. "To sleeve, perchance, to dream..."

If you didn't have bank transfer listed as a payment option, then you are under NO obligation to accept it. Say 'my auction accepts paypal only' and if he won't go ahead with that, neg the bastard!

Ummm... ok... *laughs* That's the normal way it's done over here in Germany. I saved my bank account number and bank ident in ebay and people who buy from me make a bank transfer. Once I see the money in my account I send out the item.

I know there is paypal, and cheques and all, but this is the safest way for the seller to get the money before sending the item. Paypal is costly if you only sell a couple of items per year. Giving someone my account number doesn't mean they can deduce from that account. They can only add. So... see a stupid European stare at you in disbelief... How do you do bank transfers in your neck of the woods? *goggles*
