Mostly squeeful!
Sep. 28th, 2010 10:29 pmSo. Today I went into the day job. It's been two weeks since my Idiocy Supreme moment, and also we have now moved into an entirely new building, so this was the first time I've seen the new place. And I apparently have a job, still, and I now have my new seat assignment.
Um. I love it. LOVE it. The seat. Oh, and the job, too.
The office is basically one big loooong rectangular room framed by offices on three walls. The fourth wall is partially officey, and partially windowy for the large set of low cubicles on one side.
Listen, I am a very happy Valis indeed, because I am in the farthest corner. Literally, the corner. There is an officey wall/filing cabinets to my right. No one else is in my immediate row. Someone sits on the other side of my wall, but she is barely at her desk and she's not a chatterbox at all (she's really cool and one of my favorite people there, actually). No one can sneak up on me!
Even weirder...I HAVE A WINDOW DESK. *blinks* It might not be the same everywhere, but in our company, only those with seniority get window seats. I don't know how this happened, except maybe none of them wanted to sit in the corner, not even for a window view.
I am SO THRILLED to be in the corner. I actually thought of
logospilgrim, and her peaceful dungeon, and I have to say, I am just pleased as punch to have my own quiet corner. I feel the most distinct happiness as I go back to my corner and hide. ha!
There are some cons, of course. 1) I'm right next to a super high up, which means the other super high ups cluster there. eep! (Though this means people won't come and talk to me, which is good.) 2) Someone plays a radio nearby. 3) IT'S FREEZING. Not that it's that much different from the old place, but my goodness, will I ever be warm at work? 4) My satellite radio does not work there WAAAH. I will have to find something interesting to listen to in the morning. Maybe there are some good podcasts out there.
Oh, and on an entirely different note: I feel a great sense of triumph, as I made the banner for my website tonight. I was going to ask someone to do it for me, but I'm kind of in a hurry and I just thought, what the hell, I'll give it a go, and it looks...okay. I think.
kitschicat will let me know if it'll work. So...go me...maybe. ha!

Anything else you can think of, please let me know!

Date: 2010-09-29 02:47 am (UTC)I really like The Moth Podcast - they are usually 15 minutes long and they're taken from live storytelling events. They don't read them and they don't have notes - they just get up and tell a story. Often they are funny and they're always really interesting.
Maybe also check out NPR and their listing of podcasts. They have a HUGE variety and there's probably something to catch your interest. I love This American Life which has interviews and human interest stories. Each week is a theme and they give you stories related to that theme. I also listen to NPR Planet Money which has really good news stories on the economy and money matters - it sounds dry but it's produced by the same people as This American Life and I really like both.
Ummm that's all for now. The rest of what I subscribe to is for language learning. :D But if I think of anything else I'll let you know!
