sick sickity blergh
Oct. 12th, 2010 10:12 pmSore throat coughing ick.
Fortunately, sweet Husband is here, bearing Theraflu, and there is an understanding Boss. I've taken tomorrow off and I'm going to the doctor's.
In other exciting news, I am trying Google Chrome for the second time, as I hear it's even better. Sadly, I can't get Yahoo mail to work with it, and as Yahoo mail is the #1 way I keep up with eBay/Etsy, and because of the 20 tab visual limitation thing, and because there is no NoScript (there is NotScript but it is not the same), I think the experiment has failed again.
I will try again, but honestly, I'm breathing a sigh of relief. I do like Firefox, though I wish it weren't such a memory hog now. (The one thing I had hoped to fix, though, is that my printer will only print stuff from IE right now, and I thought that if Chrome was Mostly Good, and printed, then I would use that, but nope. Not going to work.)
Also, Yahoo spontaneously changed over to NEW COKE--I mean, their new mail structure that they've had for a few years. There are things I like about it, and things I don't like, but it wouldn't display at all with Chrome, so I turned it off, and now Chrome is a no-go, and I'm going to be lazy about turning it back on until it does it spontaneously again.
Such is my exciting life. I hope this made sense because now that I reread it, it's kind of like word soup.

Date: 2010-10-13 04:02 pm (UTC)Now that it's switched itself (seriously, I clicked on an email and suddenly everything stopped and it went to New), I'm experimenting to see if it's less buggy. So far, it's been okay.

Date: 2010-10-13 08:14 am (UTC)Regarding your printer problem - have you tried an intermediate virtual printer? I use Fine Print a lot. (There's a free trial version). It's installed and works like a printer. You just don't print to your HP laser jet but to Fine Print. It'll show you the pages as they are going to be printed, you can either delete pages or whole print jobs before printing, it does double sided or booklet, etc. It's pretty neat.
The other option would be to print to a PDF printer (like PDF creator). Same thing - gets put out as a PDF first and then you can print it to a paper printer. Maybe that helps.

Date: 2010-10-13 08:57 am (UTC)I like both Firefox and Chrome; but I find when I print stuff from Chrome, it doesn't look as nice--words get squished up, strangely. And yeah, Firefox is a big ol' hog. Still, it gives me options, since I'll move heaven and earth *not* to use IE.

Date: 2010-10-13 04:15 pm (UTC)IE makes me crazy, but right now I have to use it just for printing, so I keep it open with just eBay/Yahoo running. Strangely enough, IE with two tabs uses 135,000k, while the whole of Firefox (with 20 tabs running) uses 375,000k. Interesting, huh?
I'm just mad that I couldn't even get Yahoo to load properly in Chrome. If it prints, I'd like to go with it for a few weeks and see how I like it. But it won't even print! grah.
At least the new computer is awesomesauce. Unlike the poor old one, who was getting a little freaked out at having to run 900,000k of browser (by the end of the day, Firefox is such a hog). This one was running all three browsers, two of them fully loaded with 20 tabs, and was still yawning and waiting for things to really heat up. Boy, do I love this computer.

Date: 2010-10-13 12:20 pm (UTC)Sorry you have the plague. ._. It's funny how people in all corners of the continent seem to get the same virus at the same time--half my co-workers are fighting the same thing.

Date: 2010-10-13 04:19 pm (UTC)So I might load Chrome again this week, just to make sure that it wasn't just a fluke about the Yahoo, and if it still can't do it, or if it fails the print test, I'll be sticking with Firefox again until I hear more good things about Chrome again and I'm tempted to switch. lol.
And yeah, I know so many people who have gotten sick recently! It's crazy.
