Ask me a question (or questions) about the characters I write. Or even about the universes. Or whatever.
The question(s) can be silly, serious, sexy, meta (five stories that I haven't told for a particular fandom), or whatever else strikes your fancy. Harry Potter, the Mummy, Riptide (ee! please!). You can ask about Miami Vice, Starsky & Hutch, Knight Rider. I haven't written for them, but I think I might be able to be entertaining in those fandoms. lol.

Date: 2010-02-27 08:21 pm (UTC)1) I have always wanted to write this very dark HP story where Ron and Harry go on a Horcrux hunt, and they go back to the orphanage where Tom Riddle lived. I was hoping to get it written by the time book 7 came out, but never got a chance to. It was going to be dark and bloody and awesome, but I don't think I'll ever have the time.
2) I had this marvelous crack!fic-but-not-crack!fic idea for Miami Vice. It involved poor Lt Castillo. I might still write that, but I have no idea. Signs are not encouraging.
3) There was this beautiful Snape/Lupin HP fic that I wrote in my head on the way back from WI years ago. It was dark and tormented and lovely and I completely forgot it within two days, and I always regret not writing it down.
4) There was this Mummy fic I started ages ago that will never be finished. It was very much a Mary Sue story in some ways, but it had promise in other ways. I even reread the beginning sometimes and wish that I could finish it. But I know I never will.
5) There are a ton of Riptide things in my head, but I do think that they all have an equal chance of grabbing the primary brain and getting written, so I don't think I need to list any of them. Except one, which was this really short and gutwrenching death!fic that I wrote in my head about four months ago. I will never write it. Fanfic is an escape, and I just don't want to go to such a dark place with the boys.
Great question, thanks!!

OK -- how about 5 questions you would like to ask Murray, and I'll see if I can get him to answer you!
Big surprise, huh??

Date: 2010-02-27 09:54 pm (UTC)I could go on and on, but honestly, I just think that the ending was a little strange and anticlimactic in some ways. I was astonished at how easy it was for V to take over the whole WW and I wondered why he just didn't do that from the beginning.
hee! There's my rant.

Date: 2010-02-27 09:59 pm (UTC)Okay, let me think.
1) What is your general approach to fashion?
2) How often do you keep in touch with your family? Are there weekly calls, etc.?
3) What's your favorite dessert?
4) How often do you think about the magician?
5) What is the average airspeed velocity for a coconut-laden sparrow?

Date: 2010-02-27 10:04 pm (UTC)And the plot bunnies that have bitten have only been very bare h/c scenarios involving Hutch, of course. You know, the typical valis stuff: Hutch gets a fever, Hutch gets shot, Hutch falls off an elephant and dislocates his shoulder...
I do remember coming up with one actual real bunny, though, that hinged on knowing a bunch of seventies details, and I just gave up. I don't have the desire to write for this fandom; there are just so many fantastic writers, and so much great stuff, that I kind of feel like I don't even need to throw my hat into the ring. hee!

Date: 2010-02-27 11:19 pm (UTC)Dude, the elephant story. You must write the elephant story. *gives up, guffaws*
Yeah, being an older fandom, there are a lot of stories out there. And if you don't feel the urge to write for it, that's kewl. But I know if you ever did, it'd be awesomesauce, so I hope you won't say "never." :-)

The one thing Cody never told Nick is that he knows that Nick put Bobby Henson up to sending him on a wild goose chase for a mortar cable.

Date: 2010-02-28 01:53 am (UTC)1) What is your general approach to fashion?
Fashion, oh yes, well, that's a very interesting question. Of course, the thing to remember in my case is that I've spend a lot of time working in various labs -- computer labs, robotic labs, not to mention during my work in chemistry and other scientific fields. And in those labs, we wear white coats that protect our clothing from possibly caustic or otherwise damaging spills and stains that might occur. And so, to those of us in those fields, what we wear doesn't really matter, since they are covered up. Since I spent a lot of time in those labs, clothing was really not a major interest of mine, and --
At this point in the interview, Dr. Bozinsky's friend and business partner Mr. Allen nudged him. Dr. Bozinsky smiled and nodded at him.
Yes, of course. Fashion. Well, I personally prefer to be comfortable, myself. The temperatures on board a boat on the Pacific are not as temperate as you would expect, really, so I wear a lot of long-sleeved shirts and sweaters.
Plaid is always in style, don't you think? I'm Scottish on my father's side of the family, though you have to go back several generations... I believe that was my great-great-great-great-grandfather Malcolm Hamish MacBozinsky.
Dr. Bozinsky's other friend and business partner Mr. Ryder cleared his throat noisily.
I like my shirts to have pockets so that I can carry a good supply of pens with me. You can never have enough pens, especially in our line of work. Making notes and all, you know. Er, does that answer your question?
2) How often do you keep in touch with your family? Are there weekly calls, etc.?
Oh, yes, absolutely. My family is very close, and I like to keep in close contact with them. As much as I can, anyway. My sister Melba...
Dr. Bozinsky broke into giggles at this point. Mr. Allen covered his eyes and Mr. Ryder leaned against Mr. Allen's shoulder until Dr. Bozinsky stopped laughing and wiped his eyes.
Sorry, sorry. Just thinking about the joke she wrote in her latest letter. A blonde, a redhead, a priest, a rabbi, and a rabbit walk into a bar, and --
He giggled again, but composed himself at a nudge from Mr. Allen.
Well, it's a long story, but the punchline has something to do with hassenpfeffer, a Scottish recipe for rabbit. Now, where was I? Oh, family, yes. We're very close. You see, Baba -- that's my sister's nickname, by the way -- she's a world renowned historian, and she also has an interest in archaeology, so she's often away on one adventure or another. Right now she's in New Zealand, working with a group of people who are looking for Amelia Erhardt. Apparently someone there tells a story about a woman who came gliding onto their island like a large bird, and -- Gosh, I'm going off topic again. Anyway, now that Baba and I are adults, our parents do travel a little bit more. A few months ago they traveled to Iceland. That was shortly after their vacation in Bangor, Maine. Dad is very interested in the writing of Stephen King, you see. And sometimes they go and visit Melba. That's where they are now.
Oh, guys, I bet I forgot to tell you -- Baba is going to be done with her research there in just a couple of weeks, and she and my folks are going to be flying into LAX on their way home. I think I've got them convinced to stay with us for a few days instead of going straight home! Isn't that wonderful news? I've always wanted you to meet Mom and Pop! If you think Baba likes to play practical jokes, just wait until you meet our dad, he's just a riot, and --
When everyone calmed down again, I moved on to the next question.

Date: 2010-02-28 01:54 am (UTC)3) What's your favorite dessert?
Oh, chocolate cake, definitely! Ala mode, with vanilla ice cream.
Before I could ask the next question, Dr. Bozinsky pursed his lips and raised his eyes to the ceiling. The rest of us looked up, too, until we realized that he was reconsidering his answer.
Cheesecake is good, too. Especially if it has that strawberry glaze drizzled over the top. Or lemon meringue pie. Fresh fruit is so good, too, at least when it's in season. That's one of the wonderful things about living here in California, don't you think? The real beauty of this state is how the environment is so conducive to the propagation of so many varieties of fruits and vegetables.
He nodded to himself, and before he could list any other favorite desserts -- reporter's integrity be damned, he was making me hungry -- I moved on to question number four.
4) How often do you think about the magician?
Oh. Martin Stonewall, you mean? Yes. Often. Quite often.
Dr. Bozinsky answered so quietly, while looking down at the floor, that I had to lean forward to hear him, but then I had to sit back fast when his friends glared at me. They spoke quietly to him, but I heard Mr. Ryder insist that yes, Martin is still alive, that there's no such thing as ghosts. He kept that up until Mr. Allen shushed him. When I told them that I only had one more question, they all looked relieved.
5) What is the average airspeed velocity for a coconut-laden sparrow?
Mr. Allen and Mr. Ryder looked confused, but Dr. Bozinsky smiled at me and stood up.
That's an excellent question, but actually Nick is our aviation expert, and I believe in giving credit where credit is due, so I'm going to ask him to answer that question for me. Guys, I need to go out and run some errands -- and maybe I'll stop off at Blockbuster and rent a tape for us to watch tonight over dinner.
When Dr. Bozinsky shook my hand, he whispered that he likes Monty Python movies, too, before he disembarked from the Riptide. That's how he got a head start when Mr. Allen suddenly remembered where he has heard question number five before. The two of them chased after him, leaving me behind. See the attached pages for the damages done to one pair of pantyhose, a new pair of cream colored pumps and my new pink business suit and matching briefcase when the group of apparent gun smugglers burst onto the boat, taking me hostage for five hours until Dr. Bozinsky, his partners, and one Lieutenant Ted Quinlan of the KHPD could rescue me.
Memo to the senior editor: Next time you want an interview with Murray Bozinsky, would you please make sure the computers and electronics page has a reporter available first? This was the third beauty and gossip reporter to quit this year.
Sincerely, Wanda Wise.

Date: 2010-02-28 03:50 am (UTC)In the Riptide universe, I'd secretly get a plain band for each of the boys and send them a note with each so they'd think it was from the other. lol.
But let's see...in HP, I'd get Snape a huge blood ruby set into a pendant. It would catch the light and he could put some lovely arcane spell on it, like a permanent eavesdropping charm or something. Yum. It would be his secret heart, hidden in his robes.

Date: 2010-02-28 07:57 pm (UTC)It's easy to say what's different--she has excellent manners, is extremely reserved and controlled, and is highly competent and focused.
I'm trying to think what's the same, though. Perhaps her hero worship for her father (which wrecked her when he spurned her). Allowing other people to make her decisions. The ability to put up with annoying stuff for long periods of time...er, I mean, patience, but I don't always have that--except in weird situations, where I think there's just no choice.
She also can forgive slights against herself because her self-esteem is a little low, which I can often empathize with entirely.
She's plain, too, and has some of the hang ups you get from being plain.
I am wracking my brain, trying to come up with more, but that's all I can think of at the moment. Great question!

Date: 2010-03-02 12:06 pm (UTC)Wow, these are great questions. Let me think.
I'm not certain how much it impacts our relationship. I know that the same detail-oriented mindset applies to both, and it probably annoys the hell out of him when I get completely obsessed about not leaving wooden spoons in the sink, but I can just feel them rotting somehow, lol. I have a vivid imagination and I also jump to conclusions that most normal people don't. I like to figure people out psychologically, but that is a very hit-or-miss thing and it can't be easy for him when I misinterpret his old friend's words.
Through my eyes, it's
Do you "mindread" him more since you are used to controlling your character's thoughts?
I don't think so. Maybe? I know him pretty well at this point, though, and sometimes he'll just look at me and I'll know what he's thinking. I also can sometimes predict what he's going to do, though that's really tricky because he's got this very strong streak of randomness and he can be hard to predict.
Do you mine your conversations for fictional fodder?
Hells yes. I don't go out and experience much, and I find that conversations with people, even strangers, often yields all sorts of wonderful nuggets of information. Sometimes I remember to try to listen to their speech patterns, too, but I'm not very good at that.
Thanks for the questions! :) *hugs*
