So where is everybody these days?

I'm just wondering. I have accounts at JF, IJ, DW, FB, Twitter. I don't do fannish stuff on FB & Twitter, but I'm not certain there's much of a fannish presence there, considering the size of fics and such.

I haven't been monitoring IJ or DW at all.

Is DW growing? Are there more fics and fans to be found there? Should I start watching DW again?

What are your fannish social media habits like right now, flist? I'm very curious.

ETA: Oh, and where are you archiving? I'm really liking AO3, personally, and I'm seeing that some fandoms are using it more and more.

A lot might depend upon your fandom. There is a lot of Merlin and AI stuff on DW right now, quite a few fests and challenges, and quite a few people I follow in many other fandoms cross-post to DW and are posting their fic to DW (because of the generous post lengths, like being able to post a 30,000 word story in one post) and then linking to LJ, etc.

I'm still on LJ. I have a DW, but I don't use it except as a back-up plan if LJ bites the dust or becomes inhospitable. ;) And I'm one of those awful people who doesn't do FB at all.

I do like FB for some things, like following friends and family and keeping in touch. It's great for that. But I'm too verbose for it. It's hard for me to cut my thoughts down to status-size. Much less tweet-size!

Now that I'm kind of lurking in Hawaii 5-0, I see that a lot of people xpost to DW. And AO3 seems to be the archive of choice, too, which is interesting.

So yeah, I think you're right, it's partially fandom based. I am really thinking about starting to read my DW flist. Hmm...

I monitor DW because I do have some friends on there that are not on LJ. For the most part the fannish community is much smaller, but hey, the site's been around less than two years.

I'm mostly here on LJ, although I do a hell of a lot of random bullshit tweeting on my fandom Twitter. And yes, I've noticed that LJ's been kinda quiet lately when compared to what I'm used to. I've been trying to seek out new fandom friends, but I just don't even know where to start.

I am still primarily a LJ girl, honestly. I mean, I do have the alternate journals, but they have always been backup journals.

FB is only to keep tabs on friends/family, and also to maintain a fanpage for my business. Twitter is even more business-specific, because that's all I can bear to do there.

I only have a Twitter account because of business. Otherwise I wouldn't be interested in all. I'm waaay too wordy for Twitter!

I think I'm going to start monitoring DW again. There might be things going on there that I'm missing, friends that I would like to keep up with.

And yeah, omg, I cannot figure out how to get new fandom friends, mostly because...Riptide is just so small, and there are so few new fans coming in. :( I have thought about dabbling in another fandom. We'll see. Right now, I'm still way too consumed with the Riptide boys.

My FB is under my real name and is unfannish. It's very political though, which might be stupid, I don't know. Whatever, I can never seem to be strategic. I x-post everything to DW, or through DW here, and I have split off all my personal posts to a separate, flocked journal. (I'm still editing old posts, either deleting them from my fandom journal or taking out the personal content, and doing the same thing only backwards on the other journal.) And I go on A03 when there's no fic here and prowl around, since a lot of the Sherlock fic seems to go up there. It's a nice interface. I'm also following two rec comms on DW that [livejournal.com profile] sophinisba recced this week. One is http://fancake.dreamwidth.org/ and one is http://bestthingever.dreamwidth.org/ and they're very eclectic.

And I'm on Twitter whenever my need for perpetually renewed content is too great. Here read THIS and now read THIS and how about THIS! But I follow a zillion people who are very diverse over there, mostly not fan fic, mostly politics and history with some other random stuff mumble mumble. Maybe not the healthiest thing. A lot of people are on Tumblr but I think I'm starting to twitch a little...

Quite possibly! I'm under the same name at DW if you want to add me (... I totally add all my LJ flisties at DW, though I suppose there are some who keep separate lists).

GAH, the fandom I'm currently flailing about in... IDK, it used to be ginormous, and now it's quieter, but it's scary. I am unaccustomed to not being the one with encyclopedic knowledge of the canon I'm working in, gah.

I understand wanting to dabble in another fandom just to bloody well have people to talk to, but at the same time... it's like you can't really help where your brain fixates, you know?

I'm mostly on LJ, a bit FB for a totally different group of RL people.

I have a DW account but hardly use it any more. I have no clue if people really use theirs or not. Only one of my flisters moved and deleted her LJ account.

You may get a biased sample though, since you asked on LJ ;-)

Plus, I'm no judge since I'm not into fandoms any more that much.

Dreamwidth is growing but it depends on the fandom. Older fandoms aren't likely to hop over but newer may use it as main base for communities/newsletters. Since it's FOSS & fan-friendly and runs on an .org domain, you can pretty much bet it's not likely to shove stuff like LJ's mini-games or more ads into its interface. I've been crossposting from it to LJ for many months; its post form is better. There are several DW-exclusive comms that I participate in, that LJ doesn't have, but since I integrate all of my friends list via google's rss reader, in the long run, it all shows up in the same place.

A03.org is very nice! That and FF.net (evil but gets exposure) are default options.

I'm on LJ by necessity and IJ by preference. I also crosspost to DW, but usually forget to read my f-list there. D'oh. As far as HP goes, there are certain pairings that have largely migrated to IJ while others are still primarily on LJ. A lot of fests are IJ-based these days, and daily_deviant is still IJ. :D

I'm really digging AO3 also. It has certain flexibilities that other archives I've used don't, so it's become my main archive now.

Also, re: your edit, I archive on AO3. I do have a ficjournal, here, but things go up there, instead.

The only thing I tend to dislike about archives is that they're, almost by nature, less interactive than LJ/DW comms. Even though threaded comments are supported on AO3, people tend to get far less official 'response' to their fics.

LJ pretty much only. FB is for work only. The LJ clones like DW, IJ, DJ, JF, UJ, Blurty, etc, I have but never check.

I follow my flist sporadically on LJ and have for all intents and purposes abandoned my IJ. I don't think there's much HP exclusively on DW and I'm only name-squatting over there. I post very rarely and pretty much never fandom stuff any more as I seem to have lost interest in most of it; but when I do post it's exclusively to LJ. Most of the people I'm interested in still post here, so here I'll stay.

I never check JF or IJ anymore. I do keep up with the other 3 when I have time. I also love tumblr, but that has an entirely different crowd and mode of expression. But I'd love it if more LJ people came over that way.

My FB is also under my real name and is completely unfannish.

And omg, I am so bad about strategic. It's taken all the thought I can to keep my LJ apart from my RL. And i hate that it is apart from it, honestly. I wish I could be more open, but I fear for privacy issues.

I did a DW port at one point; maybe I'll add another.

And I love AO3 so far. I actually realized today that I could use it to find h/c fics and I squeed. I know, it should be obvious, but I sometimes don't make those logic jumps, lol.

Twitter is great for some things; I like just dropping tiny notes into the whirlpool. But more often I want to share something of substance, and only LJ can do that for me, it seems.

Plus I love my LJ peeps. *nodnod*

I love the promise of DW, but I wonder if it can pull enough of the older fans and grab the newer fans. I'm very interested, but still, I do like LJ, and there are so many people here that aren't switching.

You use Google reader? I do, too, but I've never tried LJ peeps with it--can it pick up flocked entries? Wow, if I could get all of LJ and DW and such into Google reader, that could be cool.

I just get so crazy, trying to keep up with multiple flists, you know? I already have bitten off more than I can chew, and there was one day where I was scrolling over duplicate entries on IJ, and I just went, argh! no más! and closed the tab.

OMG, I am starting to become so enthralled with AO3. I wish everyone in every fandom would go there and post all their stories, lol.

Yet another reason for me not to leave LJ. ;) Not that I was considering it.
