You remind me of..."Circle of Friends". You are very into your family, you have a spark of fire.

Caring, devoted, sensitive, and the world just doesn't do what it's supposed to do! heh.

We're so new! I don't have anything that sticks out, though you were really cute about your response to the DE entry...

A koala.

I have wondered about your handle.

Date: 2005-05-30 04:07 am (UTC)Well, that's dead on for me.
I have wondered about your handle.
I assume you mean 'cactus wren'? I was trying to come up with an original name to use for my journal. I apparently have a fascination with winged things, as some of the different 'handles' I go by are winged - wren, dragonfly, sparrow - and I liked just 'wren', but it was taken. So I looked up different kinds of wrens on google & this one just seemed to click with me. I find I'm a little bored with it now, but I don't know what to change it to, and it seems like it would be weird to change my name after people have to come to know me by this one.
Here's a cactus wren (hopes it's not gigantic):
Kind of a cute, speckled little thing, isn't it? How about Valis? How did you come about your handle? And why couldn't I have come up with a cool name like that? *pouts*

Date: 2005-05-30 04:14 am (UTC)In 1990, when I logged on to a local BBS for the first time, I had to decide on a handle. I thought about it, and at the time I was working at a video game store, and the Japanese character Valis actually had more video game titles than Mario at that moment (rather impressive). I liked the games, liked the character, so I used that name.
In 1991 I found out that it also was the name of a Phillip K Dick novel. It stands for Vast Artificial Life Intelligence System.
I thought, perfect. It's brainy and shallow at the same time! So when I started an email account in 2000, I just went ahead and used the name again. Ditto for LJ last year. Though I really had to think about it for LJ. After all, your handle on LJ is much more important because it's a name for you within a community, and people see it and have to remember it. In the end, though, I just couldn't come up with anything. Later I realized I should have done some sort of name with crow in it, because I love crows, but oh well. Honestly, I'm now so entrenched in valis that it just works.
Valis was taken, but valis2 was not, which is fine, because at that point I was already valis2 at fiction alley. So there! A nice, long-winded explanation. hee!
The bird is adorable.

That's the thing about 'cactus wren', and why I'm not sure I should have chosen it. 'Valis' is different, and easy to remember, kind of sophisticated or something; zakkati is odd but easy to remember as it's a 'z' name; 'charlie'smum' easy to remember, because of the adorable Charlie that goes with it; luvboromir24601 - the name is easy, the numbers it took me awhile to remember; you get the idea. Cactus wren is like 'what the hell is a cactus wren?' Unless you live in Arizona, where it's the state bird, or you're one of those birdwatching people. Ah well, I'm stuck with it now, I guess.

Date: 2005-05-30 04:36 am (UTC)Cactus wren is such a warm, quirky name. I like it! You could always change it, though.
I still can't remember the numbers for luvboromir! I always have to look it up, or use Semagic to remember it for me.
